June 1, 2007 – More than 300 attendees at the New York Financial Writers Association Annual Awards Dinner heard about the current state of affairs in Washington DC from Congressman Charles Rangel, the chair of the House Committee on Ways & Means. Diana B. Henriques, financial investigative reporter from the New York Times, was named the 2007 winner of the Elliott V. Bell Award. Named for the first president of the NYFWA, the Bell Award recognizes an individual’s significant, long-term contribution to the profession of financial journalism. She received the award from Glenn Kramon, assistant managing editor of the New York Times. Sheila Mullen, the 2007 NYFWA president, MC’d the event. Myron Kandel, founding financial editor of CNN, introduced Rangel and oversaw the question & answer period that followed the 19-term congressman’s prepared remarks. In addition, the NYFWA awarded ten $3,000 scholarships to area students who are interested in pursuing careers in business and financial journalism. The event was held in the Westside Ballroom of the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Times Square, New York City. |
