Petroushka Petroushka Ball | Petroushka On The Hudson
Our history is rich steeped in strong friendships. In 1965,
a group of friends descendant of Russian noble families began
giving a small tea dance designed to raise money to send
to Russian children abroad. This event has grown into what
is now the Petroushka Ball. Petroushka has expanded over
the years into one of New York Society's most vibrant and
much-anticipated events attracting over 700 dinner and dancing
guests. Friendship was the seed that started the Society.
Our friends, both old and new, continue to be indispensable
in the success of our endeavors.
Petroushka Ball
The Petroushka Ball, a traditional Russian ball held annually
at the Plaza Hotel in New York City, is the primary fundraising
event for the RCWS. Started in 1965 by a group of descendants
of Russian noble families as a small tea dance intended to
raise funds to send to Russian children, it has become one
of New York Society's most vibrant and anticipated annual
events, attracting upwards of 700 dinner and dancing guests.
The 39th Ball took place on the 6th of February 2004. The event
consistently draws some of Russia's most illustrious performers,
having recently featured opera stars Dmitri Hvorostovsky, Anna
Netrebko, and Elena Obratsova. Past cultural highlights also
include performances by the Lester Lanin Orchestra and two
of the finest Balalaika ensembles the world has to offer.
All proceeds from this event are used to benefit underprivileged
Russian children. The Society is thankful to ball patrons,
guests and other sponsors whose support of this wonderful event
translates into life-giving rewards for many children. We are
already looking forward to our 40th Petroushka Ball scheduled
on February 4th, 2005!

Petroushka On The Hudson
The success and popularity of Petroushka Ball has inspired
the Society to produce yet another event. "Petroushka
on the Hudson" launched its first voyage to celebrate
the 75th anniversary of the Society. It was such a smashing
success that we have decided to make it an annual event.
